Auvergne Pointer
The Auvergne Pointer is a powerfully built and gentle dog bred especially for hunting. They are very active and require lots of space to run around. Perfect for in the countryside, less ideal for urban areas however a large garden will suffice or any area large enough for a run around. Outside of it's active life, the Auvergne Pointer settles happily into it's role of household companion. It is a remarkably gentle dog for it's size and is very affectionate around children. It is very easy train, responsive to commands and very civilised when out for walks.
The Auvergne Pointer stands 22-25 inches tall and weighs around 22-61 pounds. The coat is commonly white with black spots and is very easy to manage, only occasional brushing is required. Auvergne Pointers usually live up to 12 years old.
The origins of the ancient Auvergne Pointer are very much in debate. Some believe that Knights Templar brought them back from the East during the middle ages. Others say they originated in Malta and were brought to the Auvergne region of central France in the late 18th century by the Knights of the Order of Malta.
