German Shorthaired Pointer
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a dog that makes life fun. It is a very dynamic dog with a delightful happy nature. It is kind and affectionate but at times is stubborn and overly-eager. With children they are gentleness personified, kind and affectionate, a tireless games partner. They are always ready for action and never grow tired! They are very loyal and easy to train and can even be taught to fetch the newspaper! Their relationship with other animals very much depends on their training, they will tend to get along with the house cat. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a very good watchdog and will bark at anyone it doesn't recognise, again depending on it's training. Overly harsh disciplining can make this dog defensive and may even bite if pushed into a corner. They require daily exercise and quite an athletic family to keep them content. An under-exercised dog can be quite the talented escape artist, easily scaling a 6 foot fence.
The average height of the German Shorthaired Pointer is 21-25 inches and weigh around 50-70 pounds. They have a short liver (or liver and white) coat that only requires an occasional brush. Their average lifespan is around 12 years. Usual health issues they experience include hip dysplasia, epilepsy and problems with the lymphatic system.
