Miniature Pinscher
The Miniature Pinscher is a small and spirited dog with plenty of energy and spirit. They love to play and crave attention from their owners so they need owners who have plenty of time to spend with them. This is a very intelligent breed of dog and this can help when training them, however they are very dominant and territorial so may be hard to housetrain. They also require strong training to ensure that they do not develop any bad behaviours which small dogs can be prone to, such as being overly protective and possessive. As with the majority of dogs, early socialisation is essential to ensure a stable temperament and a good relationship with other animals and humans. Miniature Pinscher can make great family pets, however they are best suited to families with older children as they do not like to be handled roughly.
The Miniature Pinscher is a small and sturdy dog with an athletic appearance. It has a short, sleek coat varying in colour from black to tan and chocolate. Dogs stand at 10-12 inches (25-30 cm.) and Bitches stand at 10-11 inches (25-28 cm.). They weigh approximately 8-10 pounds (4-5 kg.)
This breed is low maintenance in terms of grooming due to their short coat and need only an occasional brush. They do require regular walks and the opportunity to run in open space as well as plenty of play time with their owners.
The average life expectancy of the Miniature Pinscher is 15 or more years and they suffer from very few health problems but they can suffer from luxating patella, Legg Perthes, skin problems, cataracts, and PRA.
The Miniature Pinscher originates from Germany and was used to hunt rats and other vermin. These days this dog is a popular pet due to its lively personality.
